Our Residential Inpatient Program
Moving into the residential/inpatient phase of the program, is the beginning of a reality check for most individuals. The first phase, detoxification, is the initial part of the program that gets them through any withdrawal, and the removal of the drugs from their body. This is generally accomplished within 3 to 7 days, depending on the choice of drug. Getting through this phase, although rather unpleasant and uncomfortable, is a physical matter and the body being rather resilient, is able to adapt to change - barring no physical damage or complications. The mind (or the behavior), is another matter, and often takes much longer to adapt to change.
The second phase, Inpatient Treatment is very extensive and precise. Throughout their stay in detox and into the initial 48 hours of the treatment portion of the program, an individual will undergo extensive assessment and evaluation by both the medical and clinical team. This is done to assure, the most in depth treatment plan is developed for them and that their needs are being met and all areas addressed. A primary therapist is assigned to the individual, and the two will enter into extensive one on one therapy to begin the recovery process. Depending on the information collected and the interviews conducted with the individual, a personal treatment plan may consist of a variety of treatment methods. An example, may include: Cognitive behavior therapy, with anger management therapy, extensive personal therapy, group therapy, spiritual counseling and massage therapy to help alleviate stress and anxiety. For every 30 days an individual is in the program (up to 90 days), their treatment plan is reviewed and any additions, deletions and/or completions are noted.
No two individuals in the program will have the same treatment plan or same scheduled therapies. Although everyone in the program shares a common denominator (addiction), they are all individuals and we focus on their needs first.
The Inpatient Phase of the program is extensive; it may be overwhelming at times; and, it is probably the hardest thing the individual will ever have to do in their lives. But it is also a time for healing and putting the past behind. The residents of the program, begin their day at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast, roll call, morning chores and reflection time (preparation for the day ahead). Throughout the day, they will attend to their schedules which include group meetings, individual counseling sessions, education, study time, etc., in between meals and breaks. Their day ends in the evening after a group meeting at 9:00 p.m. Sundays are reserved for family visits from 2:00 to 4:00, along with spiritual, educational and group meetings. Their day ends at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
While we believe in having down time to take a breather, watch a ball game, have a BBQ or other leisure activities, we also believe we only have so much time (30 - 90 days) to help the individual turn their life around. During this phase of the program, the individual is well into recognizing the changes that are taking place and are setting the parameters for their survival. Completion of Phase Two and a commitment to Phase Three, is the key to their success.
Phase Three, is the Aftercare portion of their program. Throughout their program, the Aftercare portion is already being put into place. It is not enough an individual completes the program. What they do after the program, is the key to their success and maintenance of their sobriety. For at least one year following the program, it is essential that the resident continue with outpatient counseling, group meetings, obtain a sponsor, and stay in touch with the center. As part of our commitment to their recovery, The Cedars makes these arrangements in the residents own communities, so when they leave the program, their supports are already in place and they have the winning advantage right from the start.
We also provide services for the family in the same manner. The Cedars offers a Family Week program, which allows the loved ones to begin healing and getting healthy also. During this process, we also assist the loved ones in obtaining help in their own communities, just like the resident themselves. Although it is the addict that needs immediate and inpatient treatment, the family needs help too in the recovery and healing process. Making it a "joint" commitment to recovery, gives all involved a better chance at success of a healthy and happy life.
