The Cedars' Family Support Program
The resident in the program isn't the only one who has suffered through addiction. The family and loved ones have suffered to. At The Cedars we are aware of the devastation and how it has affected everyone involved. It only makes sense, that we offer help to those on the other side - the families. Learning about the behavior, the warning signs of relapse, releasing fears and anger, and learning to trust again, are only a few of the topics we approach during Family Week.
This portion of the program also provides them with the tools to begin their own healing process. Being a co-dependent can be just as harmful as the addiction itself, and is capable of causing physical and emotional problems. The Family Program helps you identify the co-dependent behavior and how it affects both you and your loved one. Just like the addict learns to change their behavior the family members needs to change how they respond. If nothing changes.....nothing changes. Recovery is also about learning to change in a positive direction. Having the supports in place helps build strong relationships again.
Participating in the program is not required, but is recognized as part of the healing process for the individual in the program and healing for those that love them. If you will be attending to support a loved one, the Family Program is especially designed to coincide with the residents program and the stage of the program they are in. The therapist will be in touch within the first two weeks, to discuss more in detail your participation and at what point you may be able to attend. If you can not attend, the therapist will begin setting up support systems in your area for you as well.
Your attendance is included in the residents cost of the program. Additional members though are at an additional cost. Family “Week” starts on a Monday and ends on Friday and begins at 10:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. Meals at the center are provided for you and you will have time to share meals, breaks and quiet time with your family member during this week. Pre-arranged discount rates are available at local hotels to accommodate our family guests.
