Overview

Aftercare is exactly that.  It simply means continued care after a residential stay.  We can not deny the risks associated with relapse once the resident has left the sanctuary of the center, but there are ways to minimize that risk.

Rehabilitation does not end once the individual leaves treatment.   Aftercare is probably one of the most promising aspects of recovery and essential in maintaining sobriety and preventing relapse.  The single best way to increase the odds of long term sobriety is by maintaining a long term commitment and participation in aftercare services.

Aftercare

Family Aftercare ProgramAftercare is the period following completion of the program itself, and can occur in a variety of settings.  While a person is in our program, the actual aftercare planning is in process.  Several systems will already be in place for the resident when they leave The Cedars and return home.  Like their treatment plan in the program, their aftercare plan will be designed around the individual and their needs.  The plan may include periodic (weekly, monthly) outpatient counseling, relapse/recovery groups (daily or weekly), 12 step and self help groups (daily or weekly), and halfway or transition housing (30 - 90 day).

When a person leaves The Cedars, they will already have their first appointment set up for them with an outpatient counselor in their home town, a list of meetings (NA/AA) and their locations, a temporary sponsor to show them the ropes and help introduce them into the group, or a bed already reserved in a halfway/transition house.  The Cedars takes that extra step to assure the resident has all the tools they need to continue with the progress they have already made.

The individual though is not the only one affected by addiction.  The Cedars recognizes this and offers its help to family members and loved ones as well.  In addition to our "Family Week" at The Cedars, we can also assist them in starting their own support systems at home, while the resident is in the program and after they leave.  We have a list of outpatient counselors and meetings in your area and will assist you in getting started with your own healing process.  Knowing how to help yourself and learning more about addiction, helps your loved one too.  You share the benefits of mutual support.

The Cedars also continues to follow up with residents and their families,  for an entire year after completing the program to monitor their success and be of any assistance in any direction.  This is our Commitment to you.

When a man does a piece of work which is admired by all we say that is wonderful; but when we see the changes of day and night, the sun, the moon, and the stars in the sky, and the changing seasons upon the earth, with their ripening fruits, anyone must realize that it is the work of someone more powerful than man.
