What is CBT? It is taking control of our own behavior, rather than blaming others and implementing change.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external entities like people, places and things. It is recognized that we can change the way we think, even though the external persons, places and things have not changed. CBT is highly instructive and it makes use of homework assignments. CBT therapists learn from the resident what they want out of life (goals) and then help them to achieve those goal. The role of the therapist is to listen, teach, and encourage, while the residents role is to express concerns, learn, and implement change.
